Dot Supply Cap event
Overview
The Polkadot DAO voted to end DOT's unlimited issuance and impose a hard cap of 2.1 billion tokens by passing Referendum 1710 on the network's "Wish For Change" track, with roughly 81% in favour, in September 2025. Under the previous model about 120 million DOT were minted each year with no ceiling. The new schedule tapers inflation every two years beginning March 14, 2026, with the first step a roughly 52.6% cut, and projects total supply of about 1.91 billion DOT by 2040 against more than 3.4 billion under the old rules.
