Overview

The EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) entered into force on 29 June 2023 with a phased application timetable. Its first application phase — Titles III and IV, covering asset-referenced tokens (ARTs) and e-money tokens (EMTs), i.e. stablecoins — became applicable on 30 June 2024. From that date, issuers needed authorisation to publicly offer or seek trading of ARTs or EMTs in the EU, with no general transitional period for the stablecoin regime.
