Uniswap v1 Launch event
Overview
Uniswap v1 was deployed to Ethereum mainnet on November 2, 2018, the final day of Devcon IV in Prague. It was written by Hayden Adams, then a 23-year-old mechanical engineer who had taught himself Solidity after being laid off, and was funded in part by a $100,000 Ethereum Foundation grant. The first version implemented a constant-product automated market maker but supported only ETH-to-ERC20 pairs, so every trade routed through ETH. It launched small — roughly $30,000 of liquidity across three tokens from a single provider — and served as a proof of concept for the AMM model that later dominated decentralised trading.
