Total DeFi TVL metric
Overview
Total DeFi TVL (total value locked) aggregates the value of assets deposited across decentralised finance protocols and is the most commonly cited gauge of capital deployed in the sector. DefiLlama, the standard public source for the figure, computes it across many blockchains — including Ethereum, Solana, BNB Chain and Arbitrum — and breaks it down by chain, protocol and category. Because the metric is denominated in US dollars, it moves with token prices as well as with genuine deposit and withdrawal flows, so a rising or falling TVL does not by itself indicate changing user activity. As of 22 July 2026, DefiLlama reported total DeFi TVL of about $76.8 billion.
Within the DeFi Intel graph, Total DeFi TVL connects to 8 tracked entities, most strongly to Ethereum, Solana, Arbitrum.

Frequently asked questions
What does DeFi TVL measure?
It aggregates the combined US dollar value of assets deposited across decentralised finance protocols, serving as an indicator of total capital deployed in the ecosystem.
Where is total DeFi TVL published?
DefiLlama is the standard public dashboard, tracking TVL across chains such as Ethereum, Solana, BNB Chain and Arbitrum and breaking it down by protocol.
Why can TVL move without new deposits?
Because TVL is denominated in US dollars, changes in the market prices of the deposited tokens change the reported figure even when the underlying quantity of deposits is unchanged.
