US Offers to Halve Aluminum Duties for Firms Building in US

The Trump administration offered to halve the 50% Section 232 aluminum tariff for companies that submit approved plans to build, refurbish or expand US aluminum plants and commit to starting construction by January 20, 2029. Approved firms would import a volume matching their projected annual US output at the reduced rate, with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick setting up the application process.
