US to hit Canada with 50% tariffs on wide range of goods

President Trump signed proclamations imposing 50% tariffs on a broad range of Canadian goods including wine, dairy, hockey equipment and cement, invoking Section 338 of the 1930 Tariff Act. The duties take effect in 30 days and apply even to USMCA-covered goods, though energy and potash are exempt; Canadian PM Mark Carney called them a direct violation of the trade pact.
