LayerZero bridge
Overview
LayerZero is an omnichain messaging protocol that lets smart contracts on one blockchain securely send arbitrary messages to contracts on another, rather than being a conventional token bridge with a fixed validator set. Its current generation, LayerZero V2, is built around immutable Endpoint contracts deployed on every supported chain, which act as the entry and exit points for messages; configurable Message Libraries that determine how a message is formatted and emitted off-chain; Decentralized Verifier Networks (DVNs) that attest to messages; and permissionless Executors that deliver verified messages on the destination chain. The defining design choice is that each application configures its own security stack — choosing which DVNs verify its messages and how many must agree — instead of inheriting a single centralised verifier or fixed signer set. On top of the raw messaging layer sit standards including OFT and ONFT for omnichain fungible and non-fungible tokens, cross-chain state queries, and multi-step composable workflows. LayerZero supports EVM chains as well as non-EVM environments such as Solana, Aptos and Hyperliquid. LayerZero V2 replaced the original V1 architecture, moving from a fixed oracle-and-relayer model to configurable DVNs and permissionless executors so that applications own their own security parameters.
