Helium chain
Overview
Helium is a decentralized wireless network — a leading DePIN project — in which independently owned hotspots provide LoRaWAN IoT coverage and, through Helium Mobile, cellular coverage, in exchange for token rewards. It originally ran its own purpose-built blockchain but migrated its token economics and smart contracts to Solana. The network uses a burn-and-mint model: hotspot operators earn HNT for providing and proving coverage, while users pay for data transfer with Data Credits burned from HNT. Helium Mobile operates a consumer phone plan with carrier partnerships, and the network spans hundreds of thousands of hotspots across many countries.
