Soneium chain
Overview
Soneium is an Ethereum layer-2 blockchain launched by Sony Block Solutions Labs, a joint venture between Sony Group and Singapore-based Startale Labs. Its mainnet went live on 14 January 2025, after a testnet phase that recorded over 47 million transactions and more than 14 million accounts. Soneium is built on Optimism's OP Stack and is part of the Optimism Superchain, which gives it shared security, interoperability and scalability alongside other OP Stack chains while settling to Ethereum. It is oriented toward entertainment, creators and fans as well as general Web3 use, and supports dApps across gaming, finance and entertainment; its Soneium Spark incubation programme had backed 32 projects around launch. Since mainnet it has reported facilitating more than 500 million transactions, 5.4 million active wallets and upwards of 250 live applications. Soneium was introduced by Sony Block Solutions Labs, the Sony Group/Startale Labs joint venture, and committed to the Optimism Superchain before launch. Mainnet went live on 14 January 2025 following a heavily used testnet, and the chain has since reported over 500 million transactions and 5.4 million active wallets.
