Overview
Tempo is a payments-first layer-1 blockchain incubated by Stripe and the crypto venture firm Paradigm, built specifically for stablecoin payments at scale rather than trading. Its stated target use cases are global payouts, microtransactions, remittances, payroll and machine-to-machine payments, and the design includes dedicated payment lanes and very low transaction fees on the order of a tenth of a cent. It was announced in September 2025, ran a public testnet from December 2025 and later launched mainnet, including a Machine Payment Protocol aimed at AI agents and enterprises.
