Arxiv company
Overview
arXiv is an open-access repository of electronic preprints, founded in August 1991 by physicist Paul Ginsparg while at Los Alamos National Laboratory, initially serving high-energy physics and later expanding to mathematics, computer science, quantitative biology, statistics, economics and other fields. Ginsparg moved to Cornell University in 2001 and arXiv became part of Cornell's library, relocating to Cornell Tech in 2019. In 2026 arXiv transitioned to operating as an independent nonprofit while keeping its headquarters at Cornell Tech's Tata Innovation Center, having accumulated more than three million cumulative submissions.
