Mysten Labs company
Overview
Mysten Labs is the company that built the Sui layer-1 blockchain. It was founded in late 2021 by five senior engineers — Evan Cheng, Adeniyi Abiodun, Sam Blackshear, George Danezis and Kostas Chalkias — several of whom came from Meta's Novi/Diem effort and originally co-developed the Move programming language there. The company's core technical contributions are Sui's object-centric data model, which lets independent transactions be executed in parallel for horizontal scalability and sub-second finality, and Sui Move, its safety-oriented evolution of the Move language. Mysten Labs raised $336 million across two private investment rounds in 2022, with investors including a16z, Coinbase Ventures and Binance Labs, and launched the Sui mainnet on 3 May 2023 as a delegated proof-of-stake network.
