Overview
Pump.fun is a Solana-based memecoin launchpad that lets anyone create and immediately trade a token, launched on 19 January 2024 by Noah Tweedale, Alon Cohen and Dylan Kerler. Creating a token costs under $2 and requires only an image, name and ticker; tokens use a 'fair launch' bonding curve in which the full supply is minted at once with no presale, and the price rises along the curve as buyers arrive. The platform charges a 1% fee on trades and takes 1.5 SOL when a coin 'graduates' to a decentralised exchange at roughly a $90,000 market cap. More than 6 million memecoins had been launched as of January 2025, generating close to $800 million in revenue since inception. In July 2025 Pump.fun raised $1.3 billion in a token sale ($600 million public, $700 million private). It remains highly active but faces significant legal pressure. Launched January 2024, Pump.fun suspended its livestreaming feature in November 2024 after abusive streamer behaviour. In December 2024 it blocked UK users following action prompted by the Financial Conduct Authority. A January 2025 lawsuit alleges it operated as an unregistered securities exchange. Its July 2025 ICO raised $1.3 billion.
