Overview
Three Arrows Capital (3AC) was a Singapore-based cryptocurrency hedge fund founded in 2012 by Su Zhu and Kyle Davies. It is defunct: a court in the British Virgin Islands ordered it into liquidation on 27 June 2022. The collapse was triggered by the May 2022 implosion of Terra — 3AC had invested $200 million in LUNA, the companion token to the algorithmic stablecoin TerraUSD, whose failure wiped roughly $40 billion from the market — followed by crypto broker Voyager Digital demanding repayment of $350 million of USDC it had lent the fund. The fund owed around $3.3 billion to creditors. Its founders denied withdrawing money before the collapse but liquidators said in July 2022 filings that Zhu and Davies were not cooperating and their whereabouts were unknown. Zhu was detained in Singapore in September while trying to leave the country, and both founders received four-month prison terms; in December 2023 a court froze $1 billion of their assets.
