WazirX company
Overview
WazirX is an Indian cryptocurrency exchange founded by Nischal Shetty and operated by Zanmai Labs. In July 2024 it lost roughly $230-235 million when attackers, linked in reporting to North Korea's Lazarus Group, exploited its multi-signature wallet, one of the largest crypto thefts affecting an Indian platform. The incident revived a long-running dispute with Binance, which acquired certain WazirX assets and intellectual property in 2019 but maintains it never took equity in or ownership of Zanmai Labs and bears no responsibility for the hack; the disagreement has been litigated and examined by Indian courts and law enforcement.
