Overview

Uniswap Labs launched Unichain, its own Ethereum layer-2 network, on mainnet on February 11, 2025, after a testnet phase that began in October 2024. Unichain is an optimistic rollup built on Optimism's OP Stack, designed to give DeFi users faster transaction finality and lower fees than Ethereum layer 1, and Uniswap Labs classified it as a "stage-1" rollup at launch — partially decentralised with some centrally controlled safeguards remaining. Nearly 100 protocols, including Circle, Coinbase, Lido and Morpho, committed to deploying on the chain. The launch also created a new revenue line for Uniswap Labs, which said roughly 20% of chain revenue would flow to the company.
