Overview
Bain Capital Crypto is the dedicated crypto investment arm of Bain Capital, launched in March 2022 with a $560 million fund — the firm's first vehicle focused solely on digital assets. It is co-led by partners Stefan Cohen and Alex Evans. At launch the fund said it aimed to back around 30 companies over the following several years, spanning crypto startups, DAOs, layer-1 blockchains and storage infrastructure. Its timing was difficult: the fund launched shortly before the collapse of Terra's LUNA triggered a market-wide rout, but Bain Capital Crypto remained an active investor through 2022 and 2023, participating in rounds including Sam Altman's $115 million Worldcoin raise, privacy protocol Nocturne Labs and DEX aggregator Flood. It also co-led Celestia's $55 million round alongside Polychain Capital. A regulatory filing later indicated the firm was raising a second fund. Bain Capital launched its $560 million crypto fund in March 2022, weeks before the Terra/LUNA collapse. It invested through the subsequent downturn in Worldcoin, Nocturne Labs, Flood and Celestia, and a filing later showed it raising a second fund.
