Overview
Paradigm is a San Francisco-based crypto-focused investment firm founded in June 2018 by Matt Huang, previously a partner at Sequoia, and Fred Ehrsam, a co-founder of Coinbase. It raised $750 million at launch in October 2018 from institutional backers including the Harvard, Yale and Stanford endowments, and closed Paradigm One, its first dedicated venture fund, at $2.5 billion in November 2021 — twice its initial target and, at the time, the largest crypto venture fund ever raised. As of April 2025 it managed $12.7 billion with 59 employees. Its portfolio includes Uniswap as well as direct positions in Ethereum and Bitcoin, and in January 2021 it co-invested $1.15 billion into Citadel Securities alongside Sequoia. Ehrsam stepped down as managing partner in October 2023, leaving Huang as sole managing partner. Paradigm was founded in June 2018 and raised $750 million that October. Its $278 million investment in FTX was written down to zero after the exchange's November 2022 bankruptcy; trial evidence later showed the firm had initial misgivings about the investment but was talked into it. Fred Ehrsam stepped back from the managing partner role in October 2023.
