Overview

ERC-4337 is an Ethereum standard for account abstraction that works without changing the Ethereum consensus protocol; it was finalised and deployed on mainnet in March 2023. It introduces a separate mempool of pseudo-transaction objects called UserOperations, which are collected by bundlers and submitted to a singleton EntryPoint contract that validates and executes them against user-controlled smart contract accounts. Optional Paymaster contracts allow gas to be sponsored or paid in ERC-20 tokens instead of ETH, and EntryPoint deployments exist on Ethereum and major Layer 2 and EVM networks.
