Group of Twenty organization
Overview
The G20, or Group of Twenty, is an intergovernmental forum for international economic cooperation comprising 19 sovereign countries plus the European Union and, since 2023, the African Union. It was formally established on 26 September 1999 in response to the emerging-market financial crises of the late 1990s, holding its first meeting in Berlin that December, and it now convenes annual summits of heads of state and government. Its agenda covers international financial stability, sustainable development and climate policy, and it has increasingly taken up global coordination on crypto-asset regulation, notably under India's 2023 presidency.
