Jeremy D. Allaire (born 13 May 1971, Philadelphia) is an American internet entrepreneur who is co-founder, chairman and CEO of Circle Internet Group, the issuer of the USDC stablecoin. Before crypto he co-founded Allaire Corporation in 1995 with his brother J.J. using $18,000 in savings; that company built the ColdFusion web platform, went public in January 1999 and was acquired by Macromedia in March 2001 for $360 million. He then founded the online video platform Brightcove in 2004, taking it public in early 2012 and stepping down as CEO in 2013 to become chairman. Allaire co-founded Circle in October 2013 with Sean Neville in Boston, initially as a consumer bitcoin wallet, raising $9 million in Series A and more than $135 million across four rounds by 2016, including $50 million led by Goldman Sachs. Circle raised $110 million in May 2018 specifically to build a USD-backed Ethereum stablecoin, and launched USDC in September 2018 through the Centre consortium co-run with Coinbase. Allaire graduated from Macalester College in 1993 with degrees in political science and philosophy. Allaire's planned $4.5 billion SPAC merger to take Circle public, announced July 2021, was terminated in December 2022. Circle instead listed directly on the NYSE on 4 June 2025, seeking $624 million at a valuation of up to $6.7 billion; the stock rose sharply after the debut. The Centre consortium was dissolved in August 2023, leaving Circle as the sole governor of USDC.
