Overview

HSBC Orion is HSBC's institutional distributed-ledger platform for issuing, holding and settling digitally native bonds, covering the instrument lifecycle from issuance through redemption. It is a permissioned platform for regulated institutions rather than a public blockchain or retail product, and it supports delivery-versus-payment settlement where both the bond and the cash leg are represented on the ledger. Issuers on Orion have included sovereign, supranational, central bank and corporate borrowers, among them the Hong Kong government's multi-tranche digital green bond. In 2026 the UK Treasury selected HSBC Orion as the platform for its Digital Gilt Instrument (DIGIT) pilot.
