US Strategic Bitcoin Reserve product
Overview
The US Strategic Bitcoin Reserve was established by Executive Order 14233, signed by President Donald Trump on 6 March 2025 and published in the Federal Register on 11 March 2025. The order directs that bitcoin forfeited to the federal government through criminal or civil proceedings be retained as a long-term store of value rather than sold, and separately creates a United States Digital Asset Stockpile for non-bitcoin forfeited digital assets. It required agencies to report their digital asset holdings to the Treasury and the President's Working Group within 30 days, and asked Treasury to assess legal and investment considerations. Separate legislation, including a bill from Senator Cynthia Lummis and H.R.2112, has been introduced to give the order statutory force.
