Overview
Drift Protocol is a decentralized perpetual futures exchange built on Solana. It uses a hybrid order book and automated market maker (AMM) model, with cross-margin functionality and a dynamic funding rate mechanism. The protocol is designed for efficient and capital-efficient derivatives trading.
On 1 April 2026, Drift Protocol suffered a DPRK-linked exploit that drained roughly $285–295M (over half of its total value locked) after attackers used pre-signed Solana durable-nonce transactions to seize control of the protocol multisig. Tether and partners subsequently committed up to about $147.5M toward a dedicated user-recovery pool, USDT replaced USDC as the settlement asset, and the protocol is undergoing a security-first relaunch (as of 2026-07-15).
