R3 Corda protocol
Overview
Corda is an open-source distributed ledger platform built by R3 for regulated enterprises, first released in 2017. Unlike public blockchains it does not broadcast transactions globally: data is shared strictly on a need-to-know basis between the parties to a transaction, with a notary service providing uniqueness and finality, and the network is permissioned so participants are known identities. It is designed for tokenised assets and multi-party workflows where confidentiality and legal enforceability matter, and it is used mainly in financial services along with other regulated sectors. Corda underpins several central bank and market infrastructure experiments, including work in Project Jasper.
