Agile Coretime technology
Overview
Agile Coretime is Polkadot's resource-allocation model that replaced the parachain slot auction system. Under the old model, teams competed in candle auctions and locked large amounts of DOT to secure leases of up to two years, a high barrier to entry; existing leases were migrated to coretime with renewal rights when the new model took effect. Agile Coretime instead sells blockspace as 'coretime' in two forms: bulk coretime, purchased as 28-day allocations represented by NFTs that can be renewed at protected prices and split or resold on secondary markets, and on-demand coretime, where a project bids in near real time for validation of a single block. The design lets established chains buy predictable capacity while new projects pay only for what they use.
