Tempo blockchain
Overview
Tempo is a payments-first layer-1 blockchain incubated by Stripe and the crypto venture firm Paradigm, purpose-built for stablecoin payments at scale. It targets use cases such as global payouts, microtransactions, remittances, payroll and machine-to-machine payments, arguing that existing crypto infrastructure was optimized for trading rather than payments. It was announced in September 2025, launched a public testnet in December 2025, and its mainnet subsequently went live, including a Machine Payment Protocol aimed at AI agents and enterprises. The design includes dedicated payment lanes and targets transaction fees on the order of a tenth of a cent.
