Overview
Mode is an OP Stack-powered Ethereum layer-2 and a member of the Optimism Superchain, built in collaboration with Optimism. Because it inherits Optimism's Bedrock architecture, Mode's documentation states that fees are over 95% lower than transacting on Ethereum mainnet, and as an OP Stack chain it contributes to and draws security from the wider Superchain ecosystem. Mode's strategic positioning has centred on what it calls AiFi - AI-powered finance - in which autonomous AI agents execute onchain financial tasks such as MEV searching, arbitrage and smart contract auditing, with the chain intended as a venue for AI-to-AI interactions. The team's stated ambition is for Mode to become the main agentic DeFi hub within the Superchain. Mode's documentation does not publish sequencer fee-sharing mechanics, MODE token specifications, launch date or TVL figures. Mode launched as an OP Stack layer-2 in partnership with Optimism and joined the Superchain, later refocusing its narrative from general DeFi growth incentives toward AiFi and autonomous onchain AI agents.
