Moonbeam chain
Overview
Moonbeam is a smart-contract blockchain that operates as a Polkadot parachain while presenting a fully Ethereum-compatible interface, so Ethereum developers can deploy existing Solidity contracts and users can connect with standard Ethereum wallets such as MetaMask — any Ethereum wallet can generate a valid Moonbeam address. Its native token is GLMR, used for gas and network functions. The network runs at chain ID 1284 (0x504 in hex) with a target block time of 6 seconds, a block gas limit of 60,000,000 and a minimum gas price of 31.25 Gwei. Because it is a parachain, Moonbeam also exposes Substrate-native functionality through specialised toolkits and precompiled contracts that give EVM contracts access to cross-chain features. The ecosystem includes a testnet, Moonbase Alpha, and a sister network on Kusama called Moonriver. Documentation is maintained by the Moonbeam Foundation and was last updated in August 2025.
Within the DeFi Intel graph, Moonbeam connects to 21 tracked entities, most strongly to USD Coin, Tether USD, Lido.
