Before founding Pantera he was head of global macro trading and chief financial officer at Tiger Management, making him one of the 'tiger cubs' who left the fund to start their own firms. Pantera began as a global macro investor and later specialised exclusively in blockchain and digital assets, launching in 2013 what it describes as the first institutional bitcoin fund in the United States with $13 million; the firm managed roughly $5 billion as of 2025.
