zk-X509 product
Overview
zk-X509 is a research system, published as an arXiv preprint, for privacy-preserving on-chain identity that reuses existing X.509 public-key infrastructure instead of requiring new credentials. A user proves ownership of a standard X.509 certificate inside a RISC-V zero-knowledge virtual machine without revealing the private key or personal identifiers; key ownership is proven via OS keychain signature delegation such as the macOS Secure Enclave or a Windows TPM. The circuit checks certificate chain and temporal validity, revocation, binding to a blockchain address, and generates a Sybil-resistant nullifier, while hiding the issuing certificate authority behind a Merkle root. The authors evaluate it on the SP1 zkVM with on-chain Groth16 verification.
