Overview
Akash Network is a decentralised cloud computing marketplace built on the Cosmos SDK, letting developers rent GPU, CPU and server capacity from independent providers through an open, permissionless protocol rather than from centralised hyperscalers. Pricing is set by a reverse auction: a tenant posts a deployment request and providers bid to host it, so the market rather than a vendor sets the price. That mechanism is why reported costs run roughly 60-85% below AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure. AKT is the native token, used to pay transaction fees and for compute resources, and staked by validators to secure the network under its proof-of-stake consensus. It later opened a GPU network for AI workloads and, as of early 2026, integrated high-end NVIDIA GPUs including H100s and H200s, shifting its centre of gravity toward AI compute.
