Overview
Elk Finance is a cross-chain liquidity network whose core component is ElkNet, a multi-chain protocol for moving value and swapping assets between blockchains. Its distinguishing design choice is that only the native ELK token crosses chains: rather than bridging arbitrary wrapped assets, value is routed through ELK on the mainnet and reconstituted on the destination chain, which the project argues removes several failure modes present in conventional lock-and-mint bridges and reduces asset fragmentation. ElkNet v2 was described as the first complete version of the protocol, written with entirely original code. The team also ships a Bridge-as-a-Service SDK that lets third parties make an existing or new token or NFT cross-chain, perform cross-chain contract calls, mint cross-chain NFTs or stand up a custom bridge. Project communications targeted Q4 2024 for ElkNet v3, which was intended to make the network a trustless peer-to-peer system; treat that as a stated plan rather than a confirmed delivery. Elk Finance built ElkNet as its cross-chain engine, shipped ElkNet v2 as the first complete original-code version, and released a Bridge-as-a-Service SDK for external teams. A v3 aimed at trustless peer-to-peer operation was targeted for Q4 2024 in project materials.
