BSC is BNB Smart Chain, originally launched as Binance Smart Chain on 1 September 2020 and now the smart contract layer of the BNB Chain ecosystem. It is EVM-compatible, so Ethereum contracts and tooling can be deployed with minimal changes, and it uses Proof-of-Staked-Authority consensus with a limited validator set to achieve roughly three-second block times and low fees. BNB is its native token, used for transaction fees and staking. It sits alongside opBNB and BNB Greenfield in the broader BNB Chain ecosystem.
