Overview
Matter Labs is the engineering company behind ZKsync, and has repositioned itself around blockchain infrastructure for financial institutions. It builds two products: ZKsync, the public zero-knowledge network that scales Ethereum, and Prividium, an enterprise blockchain platform for regulated financial institutions. The unifying technology is zero-knowledge cryptography, where, as the company puts it, correctness is proven by cryptography rather than by trusted intermediaries — which is what lets an institution run a private chain while still settling with finality directly on Ethereum. Prividium is built on three stated principles: private by design, with data remaining inside institutional infrastructure; compliant by design, using role-based access and selective disclosure for regulatory oversight; and final on Ethereum, settling without third-party intermediaries. Its target users are banks, asset managers, fund administrators and payment operators. On the public side, ZKsync's stack comprises ZKsync Era, the zero-knowledge rollup; the ZK Stack for launching interoperable ZK chains; and the Elastic Network, a network of interoperable chains secured by ZK, with ecosystem projects including Abstract, Cronos zkEVM and Lens Protocol. Matter Labs completed a SOC 2 Type I examination for Prividium, conducted by Thoropass Assurance against AICPA standards. Matter Labs built ZKsync as a public zero-knowledge rollup scaling Ethereum, then extended it into the ZK Stack and the Elastic Network of interoperable ZK chains. It has since moved toward institutional infrastructure with Prividium, an enterprise platform for regulated financial institutions, completing a SOC 2 Type I examination for it.
